Modified sperm. The modified sperm now appears as a round body at the opposite pole of the oocyte from the oocyte nucleus, which is now in prophase of meiosis I. Ascaris megalocephala has a diploid number of four; the two pairs of chromosomes appear here as two dark bodies in the nucleus. Since replication of DNA took place during interphase, each chromosome pair consists of four chromatids.
