Slide 13: is collenchyma tissue from a cross section of a stalk of celery. The primary cell walls (stained light pink) are irregularly thickened, with the walls being their thickest at the "corners" of the cell. Collenchyma is an important supporting tissue in young plants when the cells are turgid. (They provide good support only when hydrated.) The cells are living at maturity.
