Loading and Unloading of Respiratory Gases A gas always diffuses froma region of higher partial pressure to a region of lower partial pressure. The figure below highlights the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide at select times during the respiratory cycle. The colored bars indicate the partial pressures (in mmHg) of these two respiratory gases in different locations.
